• October - The ISRO's Chandrayaan-1 spacecraft will be launched to the Moon.^[1]
• October 6 - The NASA's MESSENGER spacecraft will make its second last flyby of Mercury, decreasing the velocity for orbital insertion on March 18, 2011.^[2]
• October 8 - On STS-125, the Space Shuttle Atlantis will conduct the last servicing mission to the Hubble Space Telescope. It will be one of the most advanced missions in space.^[3][4][5]
• October 21 - Official inauguration of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The LHC is a collaboration of over eight-thousand physicists from over eighty-five countries as well as hundreds of universities and laboratories.^[6]
• October 30 – November 16 - The inaugural FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup will be held in New Zealand.^[7]
